Five Kenyan Officers Killed, Eight Injured in Al-Shabaab Attack Near Lamu

LAMU (KAAB TV) – Five Kenyan police officers were killed and eight others seriously injured in an attack by Al-Shabaab militants in the Rakei area of Boni Forest, located in the Lamu region.

According to Lamu Police Commissioner Wesley Koech, preliminary reports indicate that more than 70 Al-Shabaab fighters attempted to cross the Bodhei-Lamu border through Garissa. However, they were intercepted by members of the Special Operations Group (SOG).

During the ensuing confrontation, five officers were killed instantly. The injured were airlifted to Nairobi for urgent medical treatment.

The attack occurred just three kilometers from Lamu town. Commissioner Koech stated that intelligence suggests the militants aimed to infiltrate the area to carry out major terrorist operations.

This incident follows a previous Al-Shabaab raid in the Lamu region several months ago. Local residents believe it is part of a broader strategy by the group to destabilize the area.
