California (KAAB TV) – Firefighters continued to put out intense fires that have been raging for six consecutive days in parts of the city of Los Angeles, in the state of California in the United States.
Also, firefighters are focusing on two large fires burning in the west and east, before the storms begin that are feared to worsen the flames of the current fire.
On the other hand, the fire, which entered its seventh day on Monday, the governor of California Gavin Newsom said on Sunday that at least 24 people have died. He added that thousands of houses have been destroyed, while 100,000 people have been displaced.
The neighborhoods that were destroyed by the fire included houses where wealthy people lived. Officials say about 12,000 homes have been burned.
Airplanes and fire trucks are involved in the fight to extinguish the fire. Officials have warned that all the people living in and around Los Angeles, estimated to be around 10 million, may be ordered to leave their homes.
The governor of California, Newsom told the television NBC News that this fire appears to be the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States, in terms of property damage.
Finally, the private meteorological agency AccuWeather has estimated the property damage caused by this fire in Los Angeles for a week, amounting to $135 to $150 billion dollars.
