Fire Contained at Bakara Market’s Medicine Section in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Banadir Regional Administration and the Hamar Local Government have provided details on a fire that broke out in the medicine section of Bakara Market, located in the Howlwadaag District of Mogadishu. The fire was successfully brought under control by the regional fire department.

According to a statement from the Office of Abdicasis Godax Bare, Director of the Hamar Emergency and Fire Department, the blaze erupted around 6:32 PM and affected a commercial building comprising six rooms used for selling prescription medicines.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further. Their efforts saved four additional buildings in the vicinity, which housed 21 commercial rooms that sold medicines, electronics, and electronic equipment.

Photos and videos circulating on social media showed the extent of the fire damage and the firefighting efforts. A total of 38 personnel from the Banadir Emergency Department were directly involved in extinguishing the flames.

This is not the first fire incident at Bakara Market. According to local officials, such occurrences are particularly common during the rainy season.
