Federal Government Leaders and Opposition Figures Hold Separate Meetings in Mogadishu

|

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Leaders of the Federal Government and the Council for the Future of Somalia are holding separate meetings in Mogadishu to deliberate on the key issues raised by both sides during yesterday’s talks, which concluded without an official statement.

The opposition presented the Federal Government with a proposal calling for the holding of regional state elections in Galmudug, Hir-Shabelle, and South West State so that the current administrations can obtain constitutionally mandated terms.

While the Federal Government has refrained from publicly commenting on that proposal, it has in turn urged the opposition to address the completion of the Benadir (Mogadishu) local council elections held on December 25, 2025.

Both sides have indicated the need for further consultations. Their separate meetings continued late into the night, and the opposition is expected to issue a statement today regarding the latest round of talks and its official position.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Somalia is also anticipated to release a statement outlining the current state of discussions, the outstanding issues, and whether another round of negotiations will take place, according to sources familiar with the matter.
