TEHRAN (Kaab TV) – Multiple explosions were reported early Wednesday across southern Iran as air defense systems were activated in several areas, including the port city of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Sirik County, and Jask County, according to Iran’s state-run IRIB television.

The semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that at least six explosions were heard in Sirik, Qeshm Island, and the southern city of Minab. The agency claimed that several locations in those regions were targeted by U.S. fighter jets.

The reported strikes came shortly after U.S. Central Command announced on social media platform X that American forces had launched what it described as “self-defense strikes” against Iran.

According to the statement, the operation began at 5 p.m. Eastern Time under the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump and was carried out in response to the reported downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz.

“The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” U.S. Central Command stated.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Iran of shooting down the U.S. military helicopter and vowed that Washington would respond to the incident.

Trump said the two pilots aboard the helicopter were rescued safely and did not suffer injuries.

“Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” Trump said.

The latest escalation has intensified fears of a broader military confrontation in the Middle East, particularly around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments.

Regional and international observers have warned that continued clashes between the United States and Iran could further destabilize the region, disrupt global energy markets, and undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
