Bosaso (Kaab TV) – At least two soldiers and a military officer were killed, and more than five others were injured, after a powerful explosion occurred this morning on the new road linking Bosaso and Dhaadaar. The blast targeted a mine-clearing vehicle operated by Puntland security forces.
Those killed in the explosion, as confirmed by military officers we contacted, include the Logistics Commander of the Dayax Unit, Jaamac Maxamed Caduur (Afdhishiike), along with the vehicle’s mine-clearance operator and the driver, according to security sources.
The explosion happened while the forces were conducting a security operation. Medical and military emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the injured soldiers were rushed to hospitals in Bosaso.
Additional troops were deployed to the area to tighten security and to launch an investigation into the type of explosion and those responsible. The Bosaso–Dhaadaar New Road was temporarily closed while operations were ongoing.
Puntland security officials have not yet commented on who was behind the attack, but said that an official statement will be released once the investigation is completed.
The incident comes shortly after Puntland withdrew most of its forces from the Calmiskaad mountain range in Bari region, where a nearly year-long operation against the ISIS group had been underway.
Security agencies stated that ISIS’s capabilities in Calmiskaad have been significantly weakened, noting that only small, scattered remnants remain, hiding in the Baallade valley. Mobile units have been assigned to track down the remaining elements of the group.
