Ex-PM Omar Abdirashid Warns of Political Crisis Threatening National Resources

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Former Prime Minister of Somalia, Omar Abdirashid Ali, has spoken out strongly about the country’s political situation and the future of its natural resources, expressing concern over delays in reaching key national agreements.

Omar Abdirashid stated that Somalia’s oil and mineral resources could be a great blessing, driving economic development. However, he warned that they could also become a source of conflict if there is no inclusive national political agreement.

He emphasized that critical issues such as the constitution, legal framework, elections, and policies governing oil and minerals require full consensus among stakeholders.

He also noted that with the Federal Parliament’s term set to expire in three days, there appears to be a “political silence” surrounding these matters, despite the constitution clearly stipulating a four-year term.

The former Prime Minister called on the President, as the guardian of the constitution, to clarify the implications of any unlawful term extension and to convene a national consultative conference to determine the framework and timing of federal elections.

Additionally, he pointed out that most political stakeholders support an electoral system that allows broad voter participation in the انتخاب of each parliamentary seat. However, he cautioned that failure to reach a timely solution could lead the country into political deadlock, conflict, and fragmentation.

Omar Abdirashid stressed that the situation is highly sensitive and requires urgent decisions to unify political positions and safeguard the country’s stability and unity.
