Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Somalia, Suleiman Dedefo Woshe, has concluded his diplomatic assignment in Mogadishu and departed the country after completing his tenure as Addis Ababa’s top representative in Somalia.
Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that Foreign Minister Abdisalan Abdi Ali held a farewell meeting with Ambassador Suleiman to mark the end of his diplomatic mission and to recognize his role in strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries.
Ambassador Suleiman Dedefo Woshe was appointed to Somalia in 2025 at a critical period in relations between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa.
He formally presented his credentials in August 2025, a move widely viewed as part of efforts to restore full diplomatic engagement between the two governments following a period of heightened tensions.
Relations between Somalia and Ethiopia deteriorated sharply after Ethiopia and Somaliland signed a controversial memorandum of understanding in January 2024.
The agreement sparked strong objections from the Somali government, which argued that it undermined Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The dispute triggered one of the most serious diplomatic rifts between the two countries in recent years, leading to a cooling of relations and raising concerns among regional and international partners about stability in the Horn of Africa.
However, intensive diplomatic efforts later helped ease tensions, with both governments taking steps to rebuild trust and resume dialogue.
