Ethiopia Imposes Strict Travel Restrictions on Government Officials

|

Addis Ababa (KAAB TV) – The Ethiopian government has implemented stringent measures regarding the foreign travel of state and government officials, placing strict limitations on their international trips.

Under the new regulations, government ministers and heads of administrations are now required to obtain official permission from the Prime Minister’s office before traveling outside the country.

This move is primarily aimed at curbing political activities that may be orchestrated from abroad. The government emphasized that this initiative is also part of a broader effort to reduce non-essential travel by officials to foreign destinations.

Ethiopia’s actions may serve as a model for neighboring Somalia, where there are calls for similar steps to restrict unnecessary travel by regional leaders and government ministers.

There is widespread concern, however, that some officials frequently travel to cities like Nairobi, Istanbul, and others, often for personal reasons such as shopping, weekend breaks, or even participation in anti-government meetings.
