EAC and Saudi Arabia Hold Talks on Peace in Somalia and Other Member States

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamad Ali Yusuf, today held a special meeting in Addis Ababa with a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eng. Waleed Elkhereiji.

The two sides discussed a range of issues, including the situations in Somalia, Sudan, and Libya, with a particular focus on safeguarding their sovereignty and unity.

Chairperson Mahamad Ali praised Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic efforts to support peace and stability in Somalia, Sudan, and Libya.

For his part, Eng. Waleed Elkhereiji reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the African Union, especially in areas of development, peace, and diplomacy.

Finally, both sides reiterated the importance of respecting the sovereignty of African nations to prevent conflicts and disputes.

This meeting between the African Union and Saudi Arabia comes at a time when, at the end of last December, Israel granted illegal recognition to the administration of the Northwest Territories, a move opposed by countries worldwide, particularly Arab states.

Additionally, Somalia has annulled agreements previously made with the United Arab Emirates, while Saudi Arabia now appears to be playing a role in mediating political disputes within Islamic countries.
