Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The security forces of the Federal Government of Somalia have announced the arrest of several armed groups suspected of carrying out robberies and assaults across various districts in the Banadir region.
The arrests took place during an intensive security operation aimed at restoring stability and strengthening law enforcement in the capital city, Mogadishu.
According to official reports, the operation was conducted by the Banadir Regional Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies.
The police successfully apprehended multiple suspects believed to be members of organized criminal gangs that have been targeting civilians in recent weeks.
Authorities confirmed that some of the detainees were armed at the time of arrest, and several stolen items—including mobile phones, cash, and personal belongings—were recovered and publicly displayed following the operation.
Security officials emphasized that the crackdown is part of the government’s broader campaign to combat rising street crime and ensure the safety of Mogadishu’s residents.
The Banadir Police Command issued a stern warning to all criminal elements operating within the city, declaring that anyone found guilty of engaging in robberies or violent acts will face severe legal consequences.
“The Somali Police Force is determined to eliminate crime and restore public trust,” a police spokesperson stated. “These operations demonstrate our unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and protecting the citizens of Mogadishu.”
In recent months, the Federal Government of Somalia has intensified its focus on security reforms amid concerns over increasing urban crime.
Authorities have implemented a range of measures designed to enhance public safety, including the establishment of new checkpoints across key neighborhoods, the deployment of additional patrol units, and the introduction of stricter vehicle inspection procedures.
These initiatives aim to deter criminal activity and improve response times during emergencies.
Officials also highlighted the importance of community cooperation in the fight against crime. Residents are being urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious behavior, and actively collaborate with law enforcement agencies.
Security forces stressed that ensuring peace and safety in Mogadishu requires a collective effort between the government and the public.
“The fight against crime is not solely the responsibility of the police—it is a shared duty,” one official noted. “By working together, we can build a safer and more secure Mogadishu for everyone.”
The latest operation underscores the government’s determination to reinforce the rule of law, protect citizens, and promote long-term stability in Somalia’s capital—a vital step toward the country’s ongoing recovery and development.
