Deni Warns of Two Major Threats

|

Garowe (Kaab TV) – The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, has warned that Somalia is facing the serious threat of fragmentation and the possibility of being overtaken by unknown groups.

Speaking last night at an event in Mogadishu, President Deni stated, “Two major dangers are rapidly approaching this country: one is that it could break apart and disintegrate, and the other is that unknown actors could seize control.”

He cited as an example of the second threat the foreign fighters captured during the war against Islamic State (ISIS) and what Puntland witnessed in the Calmiskaad mountain range.

President Deni further warned that an even greater danger could emerge from the southern regions of Somalia, which are currently under the control of Al-Shabaab.

The Puntland leader also stated that many interconnected factors are at play, alleging that foreign governments are involved in the ongoing threats facing Somalia.
