Baidoa (KAAB TV) – New details have emerged following a powerful explosion that struck an Ethiopian military convoy on the outskirts of Baidoa, the administrative hub of Somalia’s South West State.
The blast, which occurred last night, is believed to have been caused by a landmine. Reports indicate that the explosion directly hit one of the military vehicles in the convoy, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
According to sources, two Ethiopian soldiers were killed, and several others sustained injuries. The targeted vehicle was severely damaged, and troops later secured and evacuated the area.
As of this morning, the situation remains calm. However, no official statements have been released by either the South West State administration or Ethiopian military officials based in Baidoa, the capital of the Bay region.
Meanwhile, the militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group asserted that the operation inflicted significant casualties on Ethiopian forces and was executed as planned.
