Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Two people were killed and one injured in a tragic accident at the Sinai intersection in Mogadishu, after a Bajaj motorcycle was struck by a speeding truck, according to eyewitnesses.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the truck, which was allegedly carrying a message delivery, collided with the motorcycle, instantly killing a soldier and the Bajaj driver. Another person sustained injuries during the incident.
Local residents rushed to the scene and provided immediate assistance in an effort to minimize further damage. They also managed to apprehend the truck driver, who reportedly attempted to flee after causing the accident.
Some of those present at the scene called on the Somali government to implement stricter regulations on aging trucks and enforce vehicle safety standards. They warned that without proper oversight, similar accidents are likely to continue.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Mogadishu. Many of the trucks involved in fatal accidents operate in the port of Mogadishu and nearby industrial areas, such as coffee processing zones. Critics say there has been little to no government action in response to the ongoing threat these vehicles pose to public safety.
