MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, is scheduled to pay an official visit to the city of Mogadishu, where he is expected to meet with senior leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia to discuss a number of key issues.
Wang Yi began his tour today, which includes visits to Somalia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Lesotho. According to official statements, the focus of the trip is to strengthen cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and these countries.
The tour will run from January 7 to January 12, as outlined in his Africa visit schedule. Beijing is placing strong emphasis on building solid alliances with the African continent amid increasing global competition.
For the past 36 years, Chinese foreign ministers have consistently made Africa their first overseas destination, reflecting the Chinese government’s recognition of the continent’s importance in its foreign relations.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will attend a ceremony marking the launch of China–Africa relations, to be held at the headquarters of the African Union.
China remains among the leading countries supporting the unity and solidarity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The government in Beijing has also condemned external interference in Somalia’s internal affairs.
