In a significant diplomatic engagement, Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, held a high-level meeting with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Somalia, H.E. Wang Yu

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – In a significant diplomatic engagement, Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, held a high-level meeting with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia, H.E. Wang Yu. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of national security and landmine clearance.

During the meeting, Ambassador Wang Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Somalia in its ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and eliminate the threat of landmines, which continue to endanger civilian lives in several regions of the country.

As part of this commitment, the Chinese government announced a financial pledge of one million U.S. dollars to support demining operations across Somalia. The funds will be used to facilitate the removal of landmines and to raise public awareness about mine-related risks, especially in communities most affected by past conflicts.

Ambassador Wang emphasized that China sees Somalia’s security as a key pillar for sustainable development and regional stability. He noted that the demining initiative is just one part of broader efforts by the Chinese government to assist Somalia in rebuilding its institutions and infrastructure.

Minister Fartaag expressed his deep gratitude for China’s continued partnership and support. He highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing Somalia’s security challenges and rebuilding the capacity of national law enforcement and security agencies.

“The support from the Chinese government, especially in mine clearance, equipping our security forces, and strengthening law enforcement, is a testament to the strong ties between our two nations,” Minister Fartaag stated.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation in the fields of peace, security, and development, as Somalia continues to recover from decades of conflict and instability.
