The targeted individual, Ahmed Garaar, was driving along the bustling Maka al-Mukarama road in Mogadishu when the bomb exploded on Saturday morning.

The blast, characterized as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED), occurred in close proximity to the Waberi District Police Station. Witnesses relay that the car, rigged with the explosive device itself sustained significant damage while traversing the Maka al-Mukarama road.

The deafening explosion shook nearby buildings, causing a temporary halt in traffic and leaving residents in the city center shaken and fearful.

The injured officer was promptly rushed to a hospital in Mogadishu, where he is receiving urgent medical attention.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the Somali government’s security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

It is worth noting that just a month ago, the al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group Al-Shabaab announced their intention to escalate attacks, heightening concerns over the security situation in the Somali capital.
