The security situation in the Basra area of Lower Shabelle region has reportedly stabilized following a series of clashes and military operations carried out over the past several hours by Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab militants.
According to local reports, Basra remains under the control of the Federal Government of Somalia’s security forces, which have maintained a presence in the area following operations aimed at strengthening security and preventing further militant activity.
The latest fighting erupted after Al-Shabaab fighters reportedly attempted to attack government positions in and around Basra, a strategically important area located southwest of Mogadishu.
