Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Azerbaijan has officially approved a bilateral agreement with Somalia to enhance cooperation in the field of education.
On Wednesday, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree approving the “Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Education” between the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The agreement, which was initially signed on February 12, 2025, in Baku during the official visit of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, marks a significant step in fostering educational collaboration between the two nations.
Following the decree, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of the agreement’s provisions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan will inform the Somali government once all internal procedures necessary for the agreement’s execution have been completed.
The educational agreement was one of several key documents signed during an official ceremony attended by Presidents Aliyev and Mohamud in Azerbaijan’s capital.
During the ceremony, Ulvi Mehdiyev, Chairman of the Public Service and Social Innovation Agency of the Government of Azerbaijan, and Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf, Chief of Staff of the President of Somalia, exchanged a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in providing social services. Additionally, the energy ministers of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding focused on green energy initiatives. Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Somali Energy and Water Resources Minister Abdullahi Bidhan Warsame pledged to collaborate on renewable energy projects.
Furthermore, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries, Jeyhun Bayramov of Azerbaijan and Ahmed Macallin Fiqi of Somalia, exchanged the signed educational cooperation agreement approved by President Aliyev.
