AUSSOM Commander Meets Mubarak After Liberation Operation Against Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The Commander of the AUSSOM forces, Gen. Sam Kavuma, visited the town of Mubaarak, which was recently recaptured from the Al-Shabaab group, to assess the combat readiness of African Union mission troops and the Somali National Army.

The visit came after a joint military operation that liberated the towns of Mubaarak and Durasalaam, according to military officials.

Gen. Kavuma praised the joint forces for their resilience, bravery, and determination during the operation. He also thanked the leadership of AUSSOM, particularly the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Somali forces, and international partners supporting security operations in the country.

The Commander of the First Sector, Brig. Gen. Jackson Kayanja, stated that troop morale remains high and that the forces are ready to consolidate the gains achieved during the operation.

Meanwhile, the commander of Battle Group 44, Col. Owiny Akena, who also led the operation, confirmed that the two towns are now fully under the control of the joint forces.

Lt. Sayidnuur Abdullah Warsame, speaking on behalf of the Somali forces, thanked AUSSOM troops for their support and cooperation throughout the operation.

Gen. Kavuma also urged local residents he met to strengthen peace and stability and to accelerate the area’s economic and social recovery. Local residents welcomed the forces, saying that security has now been restored in the area.
