MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, on Monday received the Egyptian Ambassador to Somalia, Mohamed Salah Keshtah, at the AUSSOM headquarters in Mogadishu.

The meeting focused on Somalia’s current political and security situation, regional developments, and the importance of continued cooperation and joint efforts to support peace, security, stability, and state-building initiatives in the country.

During the discussions, the AUSSOM chief expressed appreciation for Egypt’s longstanding support for Somalia and reaffirmed the African Union mission’s commitment to working closely with international and regional partners to fulfill its mandate in Somalia.

For his part, Ambassador Keshtah reiterated Egypt’s support for the implementation of AUSSOM’s plans and emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation in strengthening Somalia’s security and stability.

The meeting comes at a time when Somalia continues to face complex political and security challenges, including ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab militants, political tensions surrounding elections and governance, and broader efforts to rebuild national institutions.

AUSSOM officially replaced the previous African Union mission in Somalia as part of a restructured regional peace support framework aimed at assisting Somali authorities in stabilizing the country and gradually transferring security responsibilities to Somali forces.

Egypt has in recent years increased its diplomatic engagement with Somalia and repeatedly expressed support for Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security cooperation initiatives.
