Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Today, angry residents blocked Hoosh Road leading to the Ex-Control Afgooye intersection, where armed militias recently set up checkpoints to demand money from passing traffic.
The protesters, mostly owners and drivers of large vehicles, said they were demonstrating against extortion by Somali government soldiers manning the checkpoints.
The protest led to the road being completely closed, and demonstrators prevented motorcycles from passing, demanding that their grievances be addressed.
The Dharkeenley district administration, which oversees the road, has not yet responded to the complaints of motorists and local residents.
In addition to the checkpoints, residents also report that gangs patrol the roads at night, seizing phones and other valuables.
Some neighborhoods in Dharkeenley, according to locals speaking to Kaab TV, have become unsafe after dark due to armed groups carrying out robberies, leaving residents fearful to move around at night.
