Berbera (KAAB TV) – A young man who lives in Berbera town in Somaliland set himself on fire after a dispute between him and a girl he was in love with on Friday.

Mohamed Jama Gaahnuug, a young boy, reportedly doused himself with petrol and then set himself on fire, when his girlfriend did not pick up the phone.

The incident which took place in the neighborhood of the people in Berbera city, caused serious damage to the upper surface of Gaahnug, as emergency services extinguished the fire. He was later taken to the city of Hargeisa.

The city of Berbera is already famous for the love story of Ilmi Ismail Libaan (Ilmi Boudhari), who became one of the fathers of Somali love poetry, after he fell in love with a girl named Hodan Abdulle Walanwal, who came from a family that was financially richer than him in the mid-1930s.

Ilmi Boudhari, whom Somalis call “Somali’s father of love”, died lastly, according to reports, because of his intense love for the girl in 1941, after she made it possible for him to win her heart.

“It’s bad to sleep in the shade, what’s wrong with me, I wonder why Hodan changed me,” lamented Ilmi Boudhari, before he fell in love with her.

Gaahnug’s story reminded people of the love that took Bodhari’s life, and now his grave is in Berbera. Many people say, “The place is where Bodhari took his life; And the boy is as young as Boudhari” in Berbera. What does love have to do with it?
