WASHINGTON (KAAB TV) – Texas Republican Representative Brandon Gill is pushing a plan to deport Democratic Congressman Ilhan Omar from the United States.
Gill, a frequent critic of Omar, accused her of supporting illegal immigrants from Somalia living in the United States and suggested she was disloyal to American interests.
In a recent post on social media, Gill wrote, “It was never right that Ilhan Omar was allowed to enter our country. Frankly, America would be much better off being sent back to Somalia.”
Gill argues that Omar is loyal to the people of Somalia, claiming that she appears to be prioritizing a different agenda than US interests.
Ilhan Omar was born in Somalia and immigrated to the United States in 1995 after fleeing the civil war. She has represented Minnesota’s 5th congressional district since 2019, and in November 2024, she won re-election for a third time with the support of Somalis and non-Somalis.
The call to deport Omar has sparked intense debate across the United States, especially given its growing influence on American politics. The dispute continues to highlight ideological divisions within the US Congress.
