Garowe (KAAB TV) – The Puntland administration has denied reports that amnesty will not be granted to foreign fighters who surrender, while the administration is at war with the Daesh organization that is fighting in the mountainous region of Puntland.

Mohamud Ayid Dirir, Minister of Information of Puntland, said that the amnesty which President Saeed Abdullahi Deni has repeated several times and extended to the opposing groups is still open to those who surrender in a war zone and those who surrender when there is no war.

He pointed out that the law of war requires prisoners to be taken and pardoned and they are following that. Minister Adid added, “Forgiveness is open to repentance. God accepts the person as long as the soul does not reach the grave. God accepts repentance, and the law of war has forgiveness for prisoners.

“Emphasizing that Puntland has not called for the spread of the statement that it will not forgive foreigners who are part of the war against ISIS, the minister said: that statement is not now, I expect the young man who was educating the army, at that time It has been a few years, and he was educating the army that these men should not give up their faith.

Mohamud Aydid Dirir said that now there is a plan of cooperation between Puntland and the immigration agency to return the foreigners who surrendered to their countries, although the minister did not give details about the number, the countries they came from, and when they surrendered. people to be deported back to their place of origin.

“Foreigners have surrendered and are in the process of being deported to their countries and the IOM and the Red Crescent are working with us,” said Puntland’s information minister.

In the end, he stressed that people who are not born in Somalia and those who surrender and belong to the groups they are fighting are equal before the law in terms of the crimes they commit.
