Bomb blast kills at least 7 civilians including children in central Somalia

|

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – A roadside explosion claimed the lives of at least seven civilians, including children, in the village of Jicibow, situated approximately 25 kilometers north of Buloburde on Sunday.

The victims, hailing from two families and working as farmers, were returning home on a tuk-tuk motorcycle after a long day in the fields when their journey was abruptly cut short by the detonation of a landmine planted along the roadside.

The local community is mourning the loss of six men and a woman, all residents of the rural village.

The incident occurred against a backdrop of heightened tensions in the region, as government forces and allied militia fighters engaged in clashes with the extremist group al-Shabaab in the nearby Beero-Yabaal area on Saturday.

Locals have reported witnessing a surge in the presence of heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters infiltrating the region, further exacerbating the volatile security situation.

This devastating incident serves as a painful reminder of the ongoing threats faced by innocent civilians in conflict-affected areas of the south and central Somalia with no existing efforts to ensure the safety and security of communities, as well as the imperative to address the root causes of violence and insecurity in the region.
