Trump Issues a Severe Threat to Leakers of Classified Information

|

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has sparked intense public controversy after stating that individuals who leak secret government information to the media deserve to be shot.

Trump made these remarks during a political campaign rally on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in Bullhead City, Arizona, while addressing supporters regarding the U.S. midterm elections scheduled for November.

“In my opinion, leakers should be shot,” Trump said. His statement followed complaints he raised regarding classified government leaks, particularly those concerning U.S. military operations.

During the speech, Trump referenced the U.S. military operation against Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, which was designated Operation Midnight Hammer.

Trump stated that leaked information from that operation disclosed the flight departure and return times of U.S. aircraft in Iran.

He argued that releasing such details could endanger military operations and troop safety.

The President also stated that those who leaked the information deserve imprisonment and severe punishment.

His remarks reflected his anger toward government insiders who pass classified information to the media.

Operation Midnight Hammer was a U.S. military operation executed on June 22, 2025, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

However, not all leaked classified information is the same. It is important to distinguish between illegally leaked information that could endanger human safety and information that reveals matters of major public interest.

In the United States, laws regarding the protection of government secrets and national defense information allow legal action to be taken against certain individuals who illegally leak protected data.

However, Trump’s statement that leakers should be shot is not a legal order that can independently subject someone to the death penalty.

Every person accused of a crime possesses legal rights and a judicial due process that must be followed.

Furthermore, the president’s remarks regarding punishment for leakers must be separated from existing laws and the actual powers of government institutions.

The remarks came at a time when Trump is ramping up his political campaign to support Republican Party candidates ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

The Bullhead City rally was part of his political tour to rally support for party candidates, with national security, foreign policy, and relations with the media among the topics he addresses in his speeches.
