Puntland Orders Registration of Private Health Professionals

The Puntland Health Professionals Council has issued new directives requiring all private hospitals and healthcare facilities across Puntland to officially register the health professionals working at their facilities.

In an official statement dated October 6, 2026, the council said the directive was issued in accordance with its legal mandate under Puntland’s Health Professionals Law No. 4 of 2017, particularly Articles 6, 10, 14, 15 and 16.

The council instructed managers and owners of private healthcare facilities to register all medical and health professionals employed at their institutions.

It also warned that no healthcare facility should employ or allow a health professional to practice without a valid professional license.

The council said the measures are intended to strengthen professional regulation and ensure that healthcare workers operating in private facilities meet the required licensing and professional standards.

The directive further calls on private healthcare facilities to comply with the registration requirements and cooperate with the council in implementing the new measures.

The Puntland Health Professionals Council, chaired by Dr. Mohamed Hussein Aden, said the instructions are part of its responsibility to regulate health professionals and protect the quality and safety of healthcare services in Puntland.
