The headquarters of Somalia’s Justice and Reconciliation Party (JSP) in Mogadishu is reportedly facing financial and administrative difficulties, with senior party members claiming that electricity and water services have been disconnected.
According to sources within the party, several permanent employees, security guards and cleaning staff have also gone months without receiving their salaries and other employment benefits.
The delays are reportedly affecting both the workers’ livelihoods and the day-to-day operations of the party headquarters.
The reasons behind the reported disconnection of electricity and water remain unclear, and it has not been established who is responsible for settling the outstanding bills.
The reports come as JSP operates in a politically sensitive period, amid ongoing debates over Somalia’s elections, political transition and the country’s broader political future.
The party’s management has yet to publicly explain the reported financial difficulties or say when the affected employees will receive their outstanding payments.
