One person was killed in a road accident on Tuesday east of Garowe, Puntland’s capital, in the area known as SABCO, after a collision involving a Probox passenger vehicle and a cargo truck.
According to local sources, the driver of the Probox died at the scene after the two vehicles collided. His body was later transported to Garowe General Hospital. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity or announced the cause of the crash.
The latest accident adds to a growing number of fatal road incidents in and around Garowe. Local reports indicate that nearly 10 traffic accidents causing casualties have occurred over the past three months, with most taking place on the eastern outskirts of the city.
Many of the crashes have involved Probox vehicles, which are widely used for public transportation across Puntland. Residents and traffic observers have frequently attributed the rising number of accidents to inexperienced drivers, speeding, reckless overtaking, and poor adherence to road safety regulations.
The recurring accidents have renewed calls for Puntland authorities to strengthen traffic enforcement, improve driver training, and increase road safety awareness in an effort to reduce fatalities and prevent further loss of life.
