Political Conflict Erupts Between Galmudug and the Federal Government Of Somalia

|

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – A conflict erupted after the president of Galmudug re-appointed Khaliif Abdulle Maalin, the previous serving Police Commissioner of Galmudug a few hours after his dismissal by the Federal government of Somalia.

Federal Government of Somalia today dismissed the Police Commissioner of Galmudug, Khaliif Abdulle Maalin (Ilkacase), and appointed Colonel Mohamed Dahir Abdulle, who had been serving as one of the officials at Villa Somalia, to replace him.

A few hours later, the President of Galmudug, Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoorqoor), issued a decree appointing Khaliif Ilkacase — the same police commissioner removed by the Federal Government — as the Police Commissioner of Galmudug.

This development appears to reflect the growing dispute between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Galmudug State, a disagreement that has been ongoing over constitutional amendments and the proposed one-person, one-vote electoral system.

The manner in which the conflict between the two sides is unfolding resembles the earlier dispute between Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen) and the Federal Government, and it now appears that the tensions are extending into the security forces.
