Baidoa (Kaab TV) – Somalia’s outgoing president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, survived a mortar attack on Friday afternoon carried out by the Al-Shabaab group at Shaati Gaduud Airport in the city of Baidoa.

Hassan Sheikh, who traveled from Mogadishu, arrived in Baidoa this afternoon, where he is expected to begin meetings on the formation of a new administration for South West Somalia. This follows the collapse of the administration led by Abdiaziz Laftagareen after fighting in which the Federal Government, alongside allied clan militias, took control of Baidoa.

According to journalists present at Shaati Gaduud Airport, shortly after the president’s plane landed, at least three consecutive mortar shells were fired at the airport, endangering people who were there at the time.
