President Hassan Sheikh to Depart on an Overseas Trip Today

|

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is scheduled to pay an official visit to Djibouti tomorrow. According to official sources, the trip is planned to last two days.

The visit is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening relations and cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

During his stay in Djibouti, President Hassan Sheikh is expected to hold meetings with the country’s senior leadership, including Djibouti’s President, Ismail Omar Guelleh. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing political ties, expanding cooperation in security and economic sectors, and addressing other issues important to the stability and development of the Horn of Africa region.

Both sides are also expected to discuss joint efforts to combat terrorism, as Somalia and Djibouti closely cooperate on security matters, particularly in operations against the militant group Al-Shabaab, which operates within Somalia.

Meanwhile, the visit comes at a time when both countries are facing significant political developments. Leaders in Djibouti and Somalia are expected to head into elections in the near future. President Ismail Omar Guelleh is widely expected to run again in the presidential election scheduled for April.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also recently secured an additional one-year extension in office following amendments to Somalia’s constitution. However, it remains unclear how the upcoming electoral process will be implemented and how the country’s political stakeholders will approach it.
