Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Operations at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu faced disruptions today after a group of employees launched a strike to protest the recent dismissal of several of their colleagues by Favori LLC, the Turkish company that manages the airport.
According to reports from inside the airport, around 15 employees were terminated earlier this week.
During the protest, workers displayed a list of the dismissed staff members, including their names and identification numbers, as evidence of what they called an unjust decision by the company’s management.
Witnesses reported that airport workers, dressed in their official uniforms, gathered at a nearby open area within the airport compound, holding a peaceful demonstration.
Protesters carried signs and chanted slogans calling for the reinstatement of the fired employees and for greater transparency in the company’s labor practices.
One of the striking workers told KAAB TV that the layoffs were carried out without proper notice or justification, describing the move as both illegal and harmful to the airport’s daily operations.
“The decision to dismiss our colleagues was unfair. It affects morale and disrupts airport activities. We want the government to intervene,” the worker said.
The protesters have appealed to the Federal Government of Somalia to step in and mediate between the workers and Favori Company to ensure a fair resolution and the reinstatement of the terminated employees.
As of now, neither Favori LLC nor the Aden Adde International Airport administration has issued an official statement regarding the strike or the allegations raised by the employees.
The situation at the airport remains tense but under control, with security forces reportedly monitoring the scene to prevent any escalation.
Favori LLC, a Turkish firm, has been managing the operations of Aden Adde International Airport since 2013 under a long-term agreement with the Somali government.
The company is responsible for airport maintenance, passenger services, and overall management of the facility. In recent years, however, labor disputes have occasionally arisen over working conditions, pay, and employment terms.
The striking workers have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are addressed and their colleagues reinstated.
