Baledweyne (KAAB TV) – The newly appointed Governor of the Hiraan region, Mohamed Hussein Mohamed (Arab), officially assumed office on Thursday night, pledging to prioritize security and stability in Baledweyne, the regional capital.
Governor Mohamed Hussein Mohamed took over from Muse Salad Wehliye (Cali) during a formal handover ceremony attended by local officials, traditional elders, and members of the security forces.
In his inaugural address, the new governor vowed to launch firm measures against armed criminals and organized gangs responsible for recent insecurity in the city.
“Starting tonight, we will no longer tolerate thieves harassing poor mothers and residents of Baledweyne,” Governor Mohamed Hussein declared. “We will confront the bandits and any groups undermining peace in this city with an iron hand.”
The governor urged residents to cooperate closely with security agencies, emphasizing that peace and development depend on public collaboration.
He called on community members to share information about criminal activities and support efforts aimed at stabilizing the Hiraan region.
“Security is not the government’s responsibility alone. Every citizen has a role to play in protecting our community and rebuilding our region,” he added.
The leadership change comes amid growing public concern over a surge in armed robberies, killings, and clan-related violence that have plagued Baledweyne in recent months.
Locals have repeatedly appealed to the authorities to strengthen law enforcement and enhance coordination among security forces.
Governor Mohamed’s appointment is part of a broader effort by the Hirshabelle State administration to restore order and improve governance in Hiraan, a key region often affected by instability and the presence of militant groups.
