Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Footage has emerged of a cargo vessel reportedly carrying weapons and military equipment supplied by Turkey to Somalia. The ship was intercepted off the coast of Puntland state.
The vessel, identified as the Sea World and sailing under the flag of Comoros, was seized by Puntland maritime forces near the coastal town of Bareedo, located in the Ras Asair region. After being taken into custody, the ship was escorted to the port city of Bosaso in the Bari region, where it is currently being held.
According to the exclusive video footage obtained by KAAB TV, the ship’s cargo includes a range of armored military vehicles and other weaponry believed to have originated from Turkey. The shipment was reportedly en route to Mogadishu, with its arrival scheduled for July 21, where the cargo was to be offloaded.
Sources familiar with the matter stated that the Sea World encountered difficulties while navigating through the Red Sea due to severe weather conditions, which may have delayed or diverted its original course.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, neither the Federal Government of Somalia nor the Puntland regional administration has issued an official statement or clarification regarding the vessel, its cargo, or its intended destination.
As the incident continues to unfold, it remains unclear whether the shipment was authorized or part of a larger bilateral defense agreement between Somalia and Turkey. The lack of transparency has raised questions among observers and regional security analysts, who are calling for greater accountability and cooperation between Somali federal and regional authorities.
Further investigations are ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
