Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Yemeni Embassy in Somalia has announced the release of seven Yemeni fishermen who had been detained for nearly two months by security forces in Bosaso, part of the Puntland regional administration. The fishermen were arrested after entering Puntland’s territorial waters without obtaining the required permission from the regional Ministry of Fisheries.
In a statement shared with Aden Al-Ghad newspaper, the Yemeni Embassy cautioned all Yemeni fishermen against fishing in Somali waters without a valid license. The embassy stressed that fishing without proper authorization may result in detention or other penalties imposed by Somali authorities.
The embassy underscored the importance of securing appropriate fishing licenses prior to entering Somali waters in order to protect the rights and freedom of Yemeni fishermen and to avoid future legal consequences.
Earlier in June, Puntland authorities released 26 Yemeni fishermen who had been detained for similar offenses. According to Yemeni media reports, their release was granted under an official amnesty issued by the Puntland regional government.
