Somali Parliament Approves Displaced Persons Bill to Protect Vulnerable Communities

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The People’s Assembly of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has officially passed the Displaced Persons Bill following an extensive review process that included three formal readings and lengthy discussions.

The Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, announced the results of the vote, stating that 136 Members of Parliament supported the bill, while only 4 opposed it. There were no abstentions, making the bill’s passage decisive and official.

Speaker Madobe emphasized the significance of the new law, highlighting Somalia’s large population of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are in urgent need of legal protection and access to essential social services.

Following the vote, Saadad Mohamed Nur Aliyow, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, expressed his gratitude to the members of Parliament. He praised their commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of displaced populations across the country.

The bill, introduced by the Ministry of Interior, is expected to enhance the legal framework for protecting IDPs in Somalia and facilitate the delivery of critical services to improve their living conditions.
