Djibouti (KAAB TV) – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Irro, met with diplomats from the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti during his recent visit to the country.
President Irro held talks with a delegation led by Ethiopia’s Deputy Ambassador to Djibouti, Kebede Abera Ido. The discussions focused on key regional issues, including Red Sea security and the facilitation of trade routes.
Ambassador Kebede emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Somaliland, particularly in areas of security collaboration and economic cooperation.
This meeting follows Ethiopia’s recent decision to withdraw from a controversial agreement signed on January 1, 2024, with the previous Somaliland administration. That deal had reportedly involved access to a portion of Somaliland’s coastline.
Ethiopia, a landlocked country, has long sought reliable access to the sea to facilitate international trade and improve its economic connectivity.
