Puntland Military Court Detains Suspects Accused of Supplying Weapons to Daesh

|

Galkayo (KAAB TV) – Puntland’s military court has detained four individuals accused of supplying weapons and explosives to the terrorist organization Daesh (ISIS).

Authorities allege the suspects were involved in delivering explosive materials and drones to the group. These items were intercepted by security forces in Galkayo in August of last year. According to police investigations, the explosives and drones were concealed inside cardboard boxes in an attempt to evade detection.

The accused individuals are reportedly affiliated with a travel company known as Safari. During court proceedings, they claimed they were unaware of the contents of the shipment, which they believed was being transported to Mogadishu after passing through Garowe.

A key witness, the vehicle driver, testified that one of the speakers in the shipment caught fire during transit. He stated that liquid resembling urine and water leaked from inside the speaker, prompting him to immediately contact the police and report the incident.

The shipment was reportedly linked to a businessman operating in the Bakar Market area of Mogadishu.

Despite the suspects’ denials, authorities suspect they are part of a broader network that facilitates the transportation of explosives to Daesh. The court has not yet reached a verdict, and the case remains under investigation.

The trial is ongoing.
