Baidoa (KAAB TV) – Fresh details have emerged regarding a coordinated military operation conducted by the Somali National Army, particularly the 8th Battalion of the 60th Division, with support from the Southwest regional paramilitary unit known as the Dervishes. The operation focused on areas surrounding the city of Baidoa in the Bay region.
The joint forces carried out the offensive in the villages of Kuraw Rooge and Dhanbalka, located within the Deynunai area. These areas were believed to have served as operational centers for the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The mission was led by Lieutenant General Abdirahman Nishow Ali, alongside Dervish Commander Burjaad Gashaale Awul Ibrahim Abdullahi. According to officials, the aim was to disrupt Al-Shabaab’s capabilities and reclaim strategic points previously used for launching attacks.
Authorities confirmed that these counter-terrorism efforts will continue as part of a broader campaign to secure the Bay region and beyond.
This operation comes amid an escalation of military activity by government forces and the Southwest Dervishes, particularly in the Bay and Bakool regions, as the South West State intensifies its offensive against the militant group.
