Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Members of the People’s Assembly of the Somali Parliament have initiated a motion against Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, accusing him of failing to convene the sixth session of the Assembly.
The MPs allege that Speaker Madobe has violated both the national Constitution and the Assembly’s internal regulations. They emphasized that the sixth parliamentary session, which should span three months, has yet to officially begin, leaving MPs unable to perform their legislative duties.
During a meeting held in Mogadishu, the lawmakers claimed that Speaker Madobe effectively shut down the House after learning of efforts to unseat him. As a result, parliamentary meetings have not been held at all.
MP Saadaq Abdullahi, who spoke to the media following the meeting, stated that they have gathered the support of over 100 MPs in line with Article 65, Clause 4 of the provisional Somali Constitution, making the motion legally valid.
He urged the Speaker to immediately reopen the Assembly so that parliamentarians can resume their national responsibilities, noting that the House has remained inactive for more than two weeks.
