MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – An official from the Ethiopian consulate in Garowe has been killed in Las Anod, the administrative capital of SSC-Khaatumo, according to local sources.
The victim, identified as Farah Aidid Jama — commonly known as Baris — was a security expert serving with Ethiopia’s consulate in Garowe, Puntland.
He was reportedly abducted on Sunday night from the hotel where he was staying in Las Anod.
His body was later discovered dumped in the Goojacade valley.
It bore gunshot wounds and showed signs of severe torture.
Security source confirmed that his mobile phones were taken prior to the killing.
According to an official appointment letter dated March 1, 2025, Jama had been assigned to assist and monitor Ethiopian nationals traveling in the region.
In a photo widely circulated online, Farah Aidid Jama appeared to still be in Las Anod as recently as last week.
He was reportedly seen meeting with members of the Somali Prime Minister’s delegation during their visit to the city.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre spent three days in Las Anod last week, during which Farah Aidid Jama was also said to have met Somali Police Commissioner Gen. Asad Osman and another man identified as Jama Madobe, a security official from the SSC-Khaatumo administration.
It is not clear why the Ethiopian diplomat was in Las Anod.
No group has claimed responsibility for the killing, and the SSC-Khaatumo administration has not yet released any details or issued a statement regarding the incident.
