Aden Yabaal (KAAB TV) – A few days ago, the Al-Shabaab militant group launched a major assault on the Aden Yabaal district in the Middle Shabelle region, beginning with a series of explosions followed by a direct ground attack.
The clash resulted in numerous casualties on both sides, including deaths and injuries among Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab fighters. Several soldiers and officers remain unaccounted for following the attack.
Among those confirmed dead is Ismail Ise Mohamud Turiyare, the commander of the 87th Battalion under the 77th Brigade. Commander Turiyare was initially reported missing after the attack, but his death has now been confirmed by family members.
According to relatives, the commander and his unit engaged in heavy fighting with Al-Shabaab militants before he was ultimately killed. Earlier unverified reports suggested that Commander Turiyare and some of his men had been captured alive, but Al-Shabaab has not released any photos or videos to confirm this claim.
The attack has had a devastating impact on government forces, particularly those deployed from Eelbur and Galhareeri districts, where many of the fallen soldiers were based.
