BEIDHABO (KAAB TV) – Several districts in the Bay and Bakool regions, previously under a land blockade by the terrorist group Al-Shabaab for over 13 years, have reportedly regained access thanks to the efforts of local residents, particularly business leaders.
The districts of Hudur, Wajid, Dinsoor, and Qansaxdhere, located in the South West State of Somalia, had been cut off by land since the blockade was imposed over a decade ago.
Videos from Qansaxdhere show jubilant residents celebrating the lifting of the blockade. One local resident, in a video shared on social media, expressed his relief: “Qansaxdhere district has been in isolation for a long time. Thank God the blockade that lasted over 13 years has finally been lifted.”
Despite the significance of the development, neither the Somali federal government nor the South West regional administration has issued an official statement regarding the lifting of the blockade in these areas, which had long suffered economically due to the restrictions.
