KISMAYO (KAAB TV) – Jubbaland administration has deployed a significant number of troops from the Jubbaland Dervishes to the northern areas of the Lower Juba region, where Al-Shabaab remains active. This operation is part of a broader campaign aimed at liberating territories from Al-Shabaab militants.
On Thursday, state-run television broadcasted footage showing heavily armed regional forces engaged on the frontlines, working alongside Somali government troops and international partners.
The current operation follows a recent joint attack by the elite Danab commandos and Jubbaland Darwish forces, which successfully targeted and destroyed Al-Shabaab positions in the area. This strike delivered a substantial blow to the militant group’s presence in northern Lower Juba.
Jubbaland officials have confirmed that this intensified military campaign targets Al-Shabaab-controlled regions in both Lower Juba and Middle Juba.
In a related development, last month, the Somali government, with support from international allies, launched an airstrike on Jilib, a key Al-Shabaab stronghold in southern Somalia. The airstrike reportedly caused significant damage, including the destruction of key leadership figures within the group.
