Journalist Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Security and Insulting Leaders

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Somali Police Force has issued a statement confirming the arrest of journalist Ali Adam Muumin by the military command in the Hamarweyne District. He is accused of undermining security and insulting the country’s leaders.

According to the police, Muumin is facing charges for actions that allegedly disturbed public order and for posts on his Facebook page, which included direct criticisms and insults directed at the nation’s leaders.

The police statement, dated March 1, 2025, reads: “On 01/03/2025, the Somali Police Force, particularly the Hamar Weyne Police Station, arrested the suspect, Ali Adam Muumin, who is accused of compromising security and insulting the head of state. He will be brought before the competent court.”

Authorities have also urged Somali citizens to avoid involvement in actions that could jeopardize the capital’s security.

Meanwhile, several members of the Somali Parliament have strongly condemned the journalist’s arrest and called for his immediate release.
