Intense Fighting Erupts in Luuq District of Gedo Region

|

Gedo (KAAB TV) – Intense fighting broke out this morning, Wednesday, in the Luuq district of the Gedo region, with local militias from the area clashing, according to eyewitnesses.

Residents reported hearing heavy gunfire both inside and outside the city, with both sides using small arms and light weapons. Eyewitnesses also mentioned that sporadic artillery shells landed in residential neighborhoods, causing further concern.

We reached out to the Luuq district administration for more information, but early reports indicate casualties on both sides. However, the full extent of the damage remains unclear.

This renewed violence comes just weeks after the Jubbaland government successfully mediated a ceasefire between the conflicting clans, aimed at establishing a lasting peace. Officials had warned that anyone violating the ceasefire would face severe consequences.

As of now, Jubbaland authorities have not issued any statement regarding the recent fighting.
