Mohamud Ali Yusuf As The Chairman of The African Union & Odinga Who Was Defeated

Addis Ababa (KAAB TV) – Mohamud Ali Yusuf, who is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, won the post of President of the African Union, after a difficult election that ended recently at the African Union Center in Addis Ababa.

This candidate who won the post of chairman of the African Union had only 33 votes in the seventh round, after defeating Raila Odinga who remained in the 6th round who was the strongest candidate.

Mohamud Ali Yusuf, the minister of foreign affairs of Djibouti, Raila Amolo Odinga, the former prime minister of Kenya, and Richard Randriamandrato, the minister of foreign affairs of Madagascar, were nominated for the post of chairman.

Mohamud Ali Yusuf replaces Chad’s Moussa Faki Mahamat. But not all the countries of the continent are voting, there are countries that did not participate in the voting.

These six countries are Niger, Mali, Guinea, Gabon, Burkina Faso and Sudan, and these countries were prevented from voting due to coups and civil wars.

In the election that took place in the last two days, Eswatini won the office of agriculture, rural development, blue economy, and the environment by winning in Congo-Brazzaville.

South Africa also won 41 votes, holding the office of energy and infrastructure.

Bankole Adeoye from Nigeria also regained his influential position in political, peace and security issues, having obtained a majority of 3 to 2 in the first round, defeating Jean Jacques Demafouth from the Central African Republic.

Morocco also blocked Algeria’s attempt to take control of the African Peace and Security Council. Algeria received 30 votes, while Morocco received 15 votes, thus missing the required number.

The president of Angola, Joao Lourenco, is expected to take over from the president of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, holding the rotating chairmanship held by the heads of the continent from year to year.
