Mudug (KAAB TV) – Somali government forces with the support of local militias said they killed a senior Al-Shabaab leader and ten of his fighters after an attack by the forces on villages in Mudug region, according to army officials.
The operation that took place in the area of Jowle targeted Al-Shabaab leaders, and Abdullahi Saeed Bulhiye, who was the leader of the group in charge of the area, was killed in the attack. Bulhiye, according to security sources, played an important role in monitoring the activities of this armed group in Mudug. The region has been a constant battleground between Somalia and Al-Shabaab.
News from the government has confirmed that the attack killed ten other members of the government militias who were described as Bulhiye’s bodyguards. The command of the Somali military said that this operation is part of the operation to destroy Al-Shabaab positions in central Somalia.
The Mudug region, especially the areas under the Galmudug administration, are experiencing increasing military activities, as the Somali forces have intensified their efforts to regain the areas they have taken from the group. The ongoing attacks in collaboration with the local armed groups, are coming at a time when the coalition forces are trying to weaken the ability of Al-Shabaab to operate.
